How
do dolphins swim?
What does a dolphin eat?
How do dolphins breathe?
Can dolphins live out of the water?
What is a prosthetic?
When
you read Winter's
Tail, How One Little Dolphin Learned to Swim Again,
you will learn the answers to these and other questions
by learning about the life of a young dolphin who
lost her tail. After her tail was caught and injured
in a crab trap, she became weaker and weaker. Luckily,
she was rescued by a fisherman and taken to a wildlife
rehabilitation center where she was named "Winter."
There, workers held her up above the surface of the
water so she could breath. But, things got worse.
Could she be taught to swim without a tail? Would
she be able to live? Would she ever be able to swim
again?
An
inspiration to people with handicaps, the little dolphin
named "Winter" will bring hope and encouragement.
Winter's
Tail is the touching story of an animal who was
helped by thoughtful, caring people. The photographs
of her progress are included in the book. In the Kids
Wings unit, you will get to read a readers theater
script and hear Winter's voice as the story being
told.
In
September, 2011, Winter's
Dolphin Tail Movie starring Morgan Freeman, Harry
Conick, Jr., and Ashley Judd will be released.
